Owner/Chef Yvonne Goldson was born in Montego Bay and grew up in Falmouth, Trelawny (more about her hometown, below). She migrated to the United States, eventually settling in Los Angeles where she studied Japanese for a short period of time. The similarity in Japanese phonetics and Jamaican Patois piqued Yvonne's interest in the Japanese language. This led to her authoring the "Patois Handbook" shown on the left. Yvonne is very proud of her Jamaican heritage and frequently promoted Jamaican cuisine at festivals around Tokyo. After retiring from her job at one of Tokyo's leading law firms, she seized the opportunity to formally promote a wider variety of authentic Jamaican homestyle cooking in a fixed setting. Hence the birth of JamRock Cafe & Restaurant in Harajuku, If you'd like to experience the real Jamaican taste, come see us. Your tastebuds will be delighted!
